Ash, 2 performances
In the 2024 version, each audience member was asked to write their sense of comfort/safety in their own homes on a small paper that I then folded into a house. I started the action by speaking about this mini-village that we had created together. I then brought out a bouquet of white balloons that I held over the “village” before bursting them. The ash-filled balloons created a dust cloud that settled on the houses. I removed the paper houses as I spoke about current wars, leaving only empty squares.
The 2026 version was a 5-minute action in which I held the balloons close to my body and burst them in quick succession. The audience was crowded into a narrow hallway which was instantly filled with ash. I walked away leaving only my empty footprints.
